The astronomy guide training blends essential naked-eye and binocular astronomy skills with Kenya’s rich ecological and cultural heritage. This training goes beyond scientific theory and technical equipment, integrating basic science and low-equipment practical skills with culturally relevant information about the night sky. It empowers guides to deliver captivating, locally relevant night sky tours, enhancing the tourism experience and fostering a deeper appreciation for Kenya’s nocturnal heritage.
With a lifelong passion for the night sky, I have dedicated myself to the intersection of astrotourism and dark sky conservation since 2019. My journey began with a guide-training pilot project in Maasai Mara, Kenya, and expanded to leading guided night sky tours in Slovenia and developing resources for rural astrotourism globally. My expertise spans both theoretical and practical astronomy, complemented by an understanding of nocturnal ecosystems and the impact of light pollution, honed through years of advocacy work with DarkSky International and DarkSky Kenya. This training reflects my commitment to preserving and celebrating the night sky, while providing guides with the tools to share its wonders with others.
